Why Food Safety and Hygiene Is So Important

Food safety plays a critical role in public health. Unsafe food handling can lead to contamination, illness, and serious harm, particularly for vulnerable individuals such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions.

By understanding and applying correct food safety and hygiene practices, you help reduce risks, protect consumers, and maintain safe working environments.

This course is widely used as part of core training for care home staff training.


Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 Certification

Achieving a CPD accredited Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 certificate demonstrates that you have the knowledge and understanding required to handle food safely. This recognised certification helps build trust with patients, residents, customers, employers, and regulatory bodies, while supporting high standards across care and catering services.


Course Access and Flexible Learning

Once registered, you will have 90 days access to this course, giving you plenty of time to complete the training around your existing commitments. All learning is delivered online, allowing you to work at your own pace.

You can pause, stop, and replay the training videos at any time to review important information, images, or diagrams whenever needed.


Core Principles of Food Safety

Throughout this course, you will explore the key principles that underpin food safety and hygiene, including:

Many learners progress from Food Safety Level 2 to HACCP Level 2 training for deeper food safety management knowledge.

Safe Food Storage and Handling

Effective food storage and handling are key to preventing contamination. This section covers best practice for storing, handling, and preparing food safely, ensuring that food remains safe from preparation through to consumption.


Assessment and Certification

At the end of the course, you will complete an online multiple-choice quiz to assess your understanding. The quiz has a minimum pass mark of 80%, and you may retake it as many times as required until you achieve a pass.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to download your recognised CPD accredited Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 certificate, which is valid for two years.

Employers training multiple staff can manage Food Safety Level 2 training through our automated group training system.


Course Duration and Accreditation

The total course duration is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, not including the final assessment. This course is CPD accredited, supporting ongoing professional development and compliance requirements.
